Size Guide:

S/M UK8-12 Waist unstretched is 26" and stretched is 32"

M/L UK12-14 Waist unstretched is 28" and stretched 34"

XL/XXL UK14-16" Waist unstretched is 30" and stretched is 36"

I'm 5’6” and UK10, and wearing the S/M.  They felt extremely comfortable on the waist, are generous in size and had plenty of room left in the waistband.
